MECHANICAL DESIGN

__

Mobile Mobile has a 3 degree of freedom motion due to its triple steering design. With the hardware components sourced, we designed the mechanical components to not only have a sleek yet aggressive design, but to also be able to carry the numerous circuit components. There are two main platforms in our design for Mobile Mobile. The top deck carries the mobile phone, supports the steering servo assembly, and is where the ultrasonic distance sensors are located. The appearance of this transparent platform can be custom designed to the user’s preferences simply by pasting decals. A phone mount was also designed with a geared clamped to allow for any types and sizes of phone the user may possess. The bottom deck houses all the circuitry which was deliberately omitted in this figure for clarity.

Steering Assembly

__

This steering assembly is enlarged and shown in the pictures above. The key to this steering mechanism is its ability to hold the servo on the top deck, while allowing for the servo arm to rotate freely. In turn, the servo arm must be connected to the the motor and wheel to allow for steering. Each steering assembly consist of 1 motor, 1 servo and several ustom machined pieces.

Phone Mount

__

The back view of the phone mount assembly is shown on the right in the picture above. The phone mount allows the user to safely and securely mount his phone onto the top deck of Mobile Mobile. The mount consists of a geared system to ensure equal spacing and symmetry of the holding clamps.  A back supporting plate is also meshed from the bottom to a flat mount that is bolted onto the top deck. A hole sitting just under the phone allows for the charging cable to run from the bottom deck to enter the charging port of the phone. Each individual piece was designed to have a sleek and lightweight yet strong design to minimize weight of the robot.
